Foundations in Herbal Medicine:
A 6 month Apprenticeship program.

This comprehensive program integrates hands-on learning of herbal preparations, guided and individual study projects and a chance to interact with other students of herbology. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will learn the foundations of herbalism through monthly weekend gatherings and some evening to allow you to practice your skills with an experienced herbalist.

Core topics of study include and are not limited to:

  • Herbal medicine making. Learn to make infusions, decoctions, poultices, liniments, herbal oils, salves and tinctures.
  • Holistic applications of herb
  • Herbs for specific body systems.
    Gain an understanding of herbs in health and disease for the following body systems: digestive, respiratory, immune, nervous, reproductive, liver and skin.
  • Aromatherapy for the Herbalist
  • Creating Your Own Herbal Medicine Chest.
    Develop a personalized apothecary for your own specific needs while gaining knowledge through experiential practice.
  • Plant Identification and Herbal Harvesting Field Trips

Upon completion of Apprenticeship, students will be able to: Identify native and introduced herbs in our Pacific Northwest bio-region, Feel comfortable in our region gathering and processing native herbal medicines, Understand when to harvest, what part to harvest and how to prepare herbs for food and medicine. This program is designed for the serious student of herbalism. Other students of the advanced program are practitioners of aromatherapy, massage, acupuncture or other alternative therapies or students with a passion for herbs who want to serve themselves, their family and community. A strong desire to work hard, study deeply and spend time amongst the plants is encouraged.
Pre-requisite: Herbal Foundations Apprenticeship or instructor approval. Classes are held in Marysville, Concrete and wild area throughout Washington State.
